THE LANGUAGE GROUPS OF ARDI

The Dampier Peninsula is home to Aboriginal people of the Jawi, Bardi, Nyul Nyul, Jabirr Jabirr, Nimanburr and Ngumbarl language groups.

For tens of thousands of years traditions and protocol have dictated law and marriage, learning and health. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, trading systems connected local Peninsula people to inland groups and there was some contact with people arriving by sea. Apart from this outside influence was minimal.
